A Weekend of Prayer and Fasting in Haiti

February 16, 2010 - Haitians mark the one-month anniversary of the January 12 earthquake.

A Weekend of Prayer and Fasting in Haiti

From Baptist Haiti Mission:
The one-month anniversary of the earthquake in Haiti was marked by three days of mourning, fasting and prayer after Haitian President Rene Preval canceled traditional Carnival celebrations. Churches all over Haiti were full as people gathered to pray and worship from 6 a.m. to noon each day February 12 through 14.

The church next to Baptist Haiti Mission Hospital where Rapid Response Team chaplains have been serving was filled to overflowing. Those gathered sang many familiar hymns and contemporary songs, and the music and message flowed into the hospital via a sound system with a speaker in each hospital ward.

Many of the patients sang along. One patient was observed kneeling on her bed, with her arms outstretched, praising the Lord. Reports are that hundreds and hundreds have come to Christ in various churches throughout the Port-au-Prince area.

Nearly 2,000 people gathered for worship and prayer at the Christian Church of the Cities in Cite Soleil.

From the Samaritan's Purse base in Leogane:
While attending a church service near the Samaritan's Purse base at Leogane, two Rapid Response Team chaplains were privileged to speak and share a message of hope and God's love. As part of the message, the Gospel was presented.

Toward the end of the service the Haitian pastor invited those who wanted to commit their lives to Jesus to come forward and many people did.

The celebration and praise was astounding. God truly inhabits the praises of His people. The chaplains were touched and blessed by the experience.
