Kurt Warner: Quarterback for Christ

January 30, 2009 - Whether the Arizona Cardinals win or lose the Super Bowl on Sunday, quarterback Kurt Warner is a winner in the eyes of God. Speaking at the 1999 Billy Graham Crusade in St. Louis, Warner shared his love for Jesus Christ.

One of the interesting aspects of the 2009 Super Bowl is that both Warner and Pittsburgh Steelers' quarterback Ben Roethlisberger are strong Christians who don't mind showing it.

Back in 2006, the Austin American-Statesman reported: "Ben Roethlisberger, quarterback of the 2006 Super Bowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers, wore PFJ (Play For Jesus) on his cleats until the NFL forbade it last year, citing uniform rules."

And when Warner led his team to its NFC Championship over the Philadelphia Eagles, the first person Warner thanked in his nationally televised interview was God.

This past week, speaking to media, Warner explained that the number 13 on his jersey is a sign of his faith. "A lot of people think 13 is an unlucky number, a lot of superstitions and negative things come with the number 13. The one thing I know in my life is that my life is never dictated by superstitions and it's never dictated by unlucky numbers.

"My faith is always first and foremost," Warner continued, "and God supersedes everything. And so a number that a lot of people wouldn't choose, that they wouldn't put in a hotel or whatever it is, I kind of embrace it to say, 'Hey, my belief is in something a lot greater than numbers and superstitions; it is in God.'"

It is refreshing to see these men publicly display their faith.
