In Memory of Christopher Laurie
Christopher Laurie, son of BGEA board member Greg Laurie, was tragically killed in a car accident July 24.
After hearing the tragic news, Franklin Graham issued the following statement: "Greg Laurie, member of the Samaritan's Purse and BGEA Board of Directors, and my good friend tragically lost his eldest son today in an automobile accident in California. His son, Christopher, is survived by his wife, Brittany, and two-year-old daughter, Stella. Brittany is expecting their second child later this fall.
"Greg, Cathe and their son, Jonathan, would appreciate your prayers not only for them but for Christopher's wife and child," Graham said.
A resident of Huntington Beach, Laurie, 33, served as the art director at Harvest Christian Fellowship for the past three years. He supervised a staff of 10 who handled all the artwork and stage presentations for the evangelical Harvest Crusades.
Harvest Christian Fellowship has more than 15,000 members and Pastor Greg Laurie's sermons are broadcast nationwide. Since 1990, more than 3.6 million people have attended a Harvest Crusades event, according to the church's Web site.
Jeff Lasseigne, one of the church's 19 pastors, said he and other church members were in Newport Beach comforting Greg Laurie and his wife, Cathe, who live there with their younger son, Jonathan, 23.
The family is "reeling" from the tragedy but is going ahead with the Harvest Crusades in Anaheim Aug. 15-17, said Lasseigne.
On the afternoon of his death, the Harvest Fellowship Web site carried a brief notice of Christopher Laurie's death followed by dozens of testimonials praising him and wishing the family well.
Christopher Laurie was sweet, loving, humble and kind, Lasseigne said.
"He was the son of a famous pastor but that's not how he identified himself," Lasseigne said. "He was his own person."
