Launched in 2002 with the goal of reaching every country of the world, the My Hope World Television Evangelism Project has been implemented in more than 25 countries to date.
My Hope utilizes both the medium of television and the relationships among people to present a simple Gospel message, and the response has been remarkable! Since 2002, nearly 9 million people have made a commitment to Christ through the ministry of My Hope. Also, in the process, more than 3.1 million Christians have been encouraged, trained, and given the opportunity to prayerfully tell others about the change Christ has made in their lives.
My Hope employs a powerful combination of evangelistic television programs and hundreds of thousands of local Christians reaching out to friends, relatives, and neighbors in its process:
- First, My Hope regional coordinators train pastors across entire countries in the project’s simple outreach
- Next, pastors train Christians to be hosts in their own homes and to present their personal testimonies
- Then, hosts pray for friends, neighbors, or relatives who do not know Christ
- Christian hosts invite unsaved guests into their homes to view a Billy Graham or Franklin Graham national telecast
At the conclusion of the My Hope broadcast, hosts share their personal testimonies and counsel their guests to receive Jesus Christ as Savior.
The project also provides an effective means of following up with new believers. Each person who makes a decision in a home fills out a response card, and under the leadership of a local pastor, receives encouragement and discipleship through the same host home. Through pastors and discipleship groups, those who make decisions for Christ during My Hope are easily integrated into local churches.
My Hope’s special programs use culturally appropriate testimonies and music and are translated into the local languages. My Hope aims to involve at least 55% of the churches in each country that it serves. When numerous churches unite across an entire country, the results are enormous! Altogether, more than 195,000 churches worldwide have participated in My Hope.
“My Hope”—A History
2007/8
My Hope Uruguay broadcasts aired in over 14,000 homes September 27-29, 2007. We rejoice that more than 26,000 people devoted their lives to Jesus Christ as a result. >>Read more
In January and February of 2007, 10,459 churches were involved in the second phase of the My Hope Mexico project, which used DVDs of the December broadcasts in more than 17,000 video projections all around the country, through which over 67,000 people made decisions for Christ.
In 2008, My Hope will reach out to Brazil, so please pray for preparations in Brazil.
2006
Throughout India, the Philippines, and Mexico, millions of people united to view My Hope broadcasts in 2006.
When Christians are baptized in India, they are fined approximately ten months of pay. Despite these challenges, My Hope aired in India twice in 2006. With more than one billion people, India has one of the largest TV audiences in the world. The combined My Hope India broadcasts were shown in 14 languages and transmitted to all 28 states of India, resulting in more than 2.7 million decisions for Christ.
My Hope Mexico’s television broadcast in November 2006 was problem-free, but the My Hope call center found difficulties as 7,500 people called during the first half hour of the broadcast. The computers subsequently broke down because of the unexpectedly large volume of calls. After repair, the call center received four calls per second.
In Mexico, more than 19,000 churches were involved in training pastors and laypeople for this broadcast. With an average of 12 homes per church and 10 viewers per home, more than 2.5 million people viewed the My Hope Mexico broadcast, and more than 479,000 came to faith in Christ.
My Hope was aired in the Philippines twice in December 2006. Earlier in February of 2006, many in the Philippines became followers of Christ at the Metro Manila Franklin Graham Festival, and countless new believers from the Festival were able to bear fruit for the kingdom as they prayed for and invited friends to view the My Hope broadcasts. More than 21,000 churches and 115,000 homes were involved in the preparation for these broadcasts, and more than 563,000 people made a life-changing decision to follow Jesus Christ as a result.
2005
Working through the local church, BGEA brought the Gospel to unbelievers in Argentina, Belarus, Chile, Guatemala, India, Moldova, and Peru. In 2004, 1,410,291 BGEA-trained Christians, representing 90,700 churches, opened their homes to their friends, relatives and neighbors to share the simple message of God’s love and redemption through trust in Jesus Christ. Through the My Hope Project in 2005, 3.3 million people reported making a decision for Christ.
The largest and most complex country reached in 2005 was India. We used 14 languages to reach out to more than 1 billion people. The Christian church there, while only a small percentage (2.3%) of the total population, is still numerically sizeable (2.5 million). It required bold vision—both on the part of BGEA and local pastors—to train and mobilize such a considerable group.
The Indian believers rose to the challenge! Christmas week, more than 768,000 homes all across India opened their doors to invite people in for TV broadcasts with the message of Christ.
2004
Christians in Bolivia, Colombia, and Ecuador eagerly took on the challenge of reaching their nations for Christ through My Hope in 2004, while a second phase of the “There Is Hope” Project took place in Russia.
In Bolivia, the programs were dubbed into the indigenous languages of Quechua and Aymara, as well as Spanish. Our Aymara Language Coordinator said he invited seven people to his home to watch the telecast. Only one of those he invited came—a 75-year-old lady—but she brought 15 members of her family along. All of them accepted salvation immediately! The oldest ones said that they were just waiting for someone to share the Gospel with them, and now that they have met Jesus, they want discipleship.
Through the My Hope projects in each of these four countries and the 15,086 churches that participated, more than 1 million people reported making a commitment to Christ in 2004!
2003
In 2003, the My Hope Project expanded to Panama, Paraguay, and Venezuela, as well as Russia. In these countries, more than 10,800 churches—in capital cities and rural towns—trained and mobilized over 226,000 members to share the Gospel through television house parties. This resulted in over 400,000 decisions for Christ—more than double the decisions from 2002.
In Russia, the project (locally called Nadezhda est, or “There Is Hope”) was set up differently because of the country’s large size and population (145 million people spread across 11 time zones). The project was a broad media outreach designed to use television broadcasts as well as radio, newspapers and magazines, the Internet, theater showings, and video parties to proclaim the Good News and provide local Christians the opportunity to share their testimonies.
2002
The My Hope Project (Mi Esperanza in Spanish) was launched in 2002 in four Latin American countries—Costa Rica, Honduras, Nicaragua, and El Salvador—with the aim to extend it to every country around the world. As a result of the projects in 2002, more than 110,000 people made decisions for Christ. One pastor said, “Over 500 people made professions of faith in my church, others recommitted their lives to Christ, and attendance has now increased with 1,800 new people coming since the Mi Esperanza project in Honduras.”
