Everyday Evangelism
What will you do when you have an opportunity to witness to someone in the ordinary course of your daily life, but you don’t have a “Steps to Peace With God” booklet or other witnessing tool handy?
In Matthew 19:16, a young man asks Jesus, “What good thing must I do to get eternal life?” Many people today want the answer to that same question. This month’s theme, Everyday Evangelism, teaches you how to provide an answer no matter when or where it is asked, and how to illustrate and explain your answer when you don’t have any printed materials with you.
This PowerPoint presentation effectively teaches adults and youth how to understand and explain salvation.

Many feel alienated from others and from God, but it is only through Christ that our deepest loneliness is relieved.
When you meet someone who feels isolated or lonely, here are some tips for building a healthy relationship and sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ with them:
- Take time to listen. This is the greatest gift you can give someone. Read the Gospel of Luke and notice how Jesus is a great listener. He asked open-ended questions, instead of questions that could be answered with a simple “yes” or “no.”
- Be an encourager. You don’t have to have the right answer. Just listen and give a word of support.
- Ask enough questions to begin building a relationship. You don’t have to dwell on the problem or issue at hand. Build some trust, and take some time.
- If you feel the reason for their loneliness is greater than you can handle, seek help from your pastor, a counselor, or a friend.
- Don’t ask a person, “How are you doing?” You know the answer to that. Instead, ask, “How are you holding up?” and start a meaningful conversation from there.
- Remember, people may not be asking you to solve life’s problems. They just need someone to walk with them through their journey.
- Ask lonely people if they have a church home or a supportive community in their lives. Invite them to attend church with you, and introduce them to groups where their personal interests and deepest desires can be met and understood.
- Ask people to share their spiritual journeys or stories, and be prepared to share your own. Remember to keep it brief. Be honest and open.
- Ask yourself:
- What were you like before you met Jesus?
- How did you meet Jesus?
- What need, that you had, did Jesus meet?
- Who are you now in Jesus?
Check out what the Bible says about loneliness:
- Psalm 40:1-5
- Matthew 11:28-30
- 1 Corinthians 1:9
- Hebrews 13:5-6
- Proverbs 3:5-6
